US-dropped TV dinners killed at least a handful of hungry Gaza refugees, but the death toll is preliminary with Gazan sources indicating that hundreds more might be trapped under the crates. Reports from Gaza say that at least five people were killed and many others injured Friday afternoon after aid packages carelessly airdropped by the US squashed them, west of Gaza City. The Hamas ministry of health put the death toll at 500, more than half of them children.
Each airdropped packages contains a select 4 Meals Ready to Eat, salt, sugar, Skittles, and Tabasco Sauce. The hot sauce was blamed for causing diarrhea to a hungry child who consumed one of the packages that managed to land safely.
Israeli officials expressed regret at the faulty US targeting and said that “now the Americans understand that “Skittles happen” in war.” He criticized the US decision to drop the food pallets from airplanes rather than delivering by Uber Eats.
The rumored use of FEDEX delivery trucks, meanwhile, has been scuppered in deference to a maverick plan to build a pier and luxury harbor for yachts in the pictureque Gaza City Harbor. The pier will provide dining and deliveries for innocent Gazans including Hamas members who were not involved in the October 7 invasion and massacres in southern Israel.
“Tonight, I’m directing the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary pier in the Mediterranean on the coast of Gaza that can receive large shipments carrying food, water, medicine and temporary shelter,” Biden said.
In his State of the Union address, a furious Joe Biden ranted angrily about the need for humanitarian aid to be delivered with “no excuses.” This was before the airdrop mishap claimed the lives of the five wee children, crushing them under the weight of Spaghetti Bolognese and Chili Con Carne. T
A Pentagon spokesman denied any responsibility for the killings, saying the job of the Air Forces was to drop the food, not deliver it. He apologized for the faulty targeting and the inability of the parachutes to bring the pallets down in a non-lethal way. He no9ted that at least fewer airdrops fell into the sea than happened with the initial foray of TV Meals delivered by air earlier in the week.
Biden said that Israel has a “fundamental responsibility” to protect civilians in Gaza, adding, “This war has taken a greater toll on innocent civilians than all previous wars in Gaza combined.” He made the remarks before the airdrops snuffed out five innocent lives, adding to the regrettable death toll.
He mumbled a promise: “No US boots will be on the ground. A temporary pier will enable a massive increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance getting into the Gaza every day.” But he insisted that “Israel must allow more aid into Gaza and ensure humanitarian workers aren’t caught in the crossfire.” He did not mention the murder of blameless Gazans killed by the careless dropping of food pallets.
The IDF announced that an internal investigation showed that most fatalities caused in what Gazans have dubbed the “flour massacre”were the result of people crushed in stampedes, run over by truck, or shot dead by Hamas gunmen commandeering the food trucks and shooting wildly at the crowd. The Israeli military said that the only time soldiers fired was not on people near the aid trucks but menacing soldiers at a nearby checkpoints
