In another devastating revelation of “Rahab’s rope” unraveling, more evidence of possible treason in Israeli security echelons.
In an alarming revelation by the Guardian following an IDF raid on Hamas headquarters in Gaza, detailed maps of Israeli military bases have been uncovered, suggesting a sophisticated espionage operation that could implicate sources inside the IDF. The British paper highlighted an unnamed Israeli intelligence source’s confirmation that these maps, used in the October 7 attack, were likely compiled with the aid of a Hamas spy. The base maps uncovered were said to be “more detailed than would have been required by the IDF itself.”
The Guardian’s report emphasizes the vast scale and coverage of Hamas’s espionage. Seized materials from terrorists, including phones, notebooks, and documents, revealed detailed strategic knowledge of Israeli sites. An Israeli intelligence source told the newspaper: “Compiling such a map could only have been done using ‘inside knowledge’ – almost certainly from a Hamas spy”.
Furthermore, the material indicated the breadth of Hamas’s ambitions. Nukba forces, as per the report, were ordered to target and disable military sites in southern and even central Israel. This large-scale planning and meticulous detailing are clear indicators of “years of planning” for the attack.
Among the documents seized was a handwritten plan for seizing an IDF command post near the Gaza border. This plan included a detailed breakdown of weapons at the base and a hand-drawn map of the targeted location, illustrating the exquisite depth of Hamas’s intelligence on IDF operations.
A military correspondent for Israel’s Kan public broadcaster noted that, at this stage, Israeli intelligence officials have no indication of spies in Israel working for Hamas before the war. The Guardian’s report, according to Kan’s correspondent, was based on a briefing for foreign media outlets where officials stated that the IDF was investigating all possibilities regarding the planning of the October 7 attacks. However, the presence of the detailed map implicates someone with insider knowledge.
The Israeli military has expressed its intent to conduct a thorough investigation after the war, focusing on the circumstances that led to Hamas’s well-planned attack on October 7. However, this shocking revelation of possible internal espionage has raised serious concerns about the security of Israeli military installations and the effectiveness of current intelligence-gathering methods, not to mention the alarming possibility of treason in the ranks.
