An estimated 200,000 to 300,000 lovers of Israel came together to celebrate Israeli in a huge show of support, strength and protest at the outrages of Hamas, the dramatic upsurge of Jew hatred, and demands to free the hostages.

The massive pro-Israel march on the National Mall in Washington D.C., titled “Americans March for Israel, March to Free Hostages, March Against Anti-Semitism,” saw Jews and Christian who love Israel come together in the nation’s capital and 18 other locations across American. Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations organized the momentous event. Participants gathered well before dawn to pray the Hallel morning service at sunrise, led by Hasidic vocalist Beri Weber, demonstrating support for Israel’s fight against Hamas and protesting the recent surge of anti-Semitic violence by leftists and Muslims.

Echoing sentiments of unity and a stand against hostility toward Jewish support in the U.S., the Beth Din of Crown Heights encouraged a strong turnout, underlining the impact it would have amidst the precarious situation in Israel. The event’s significance was heightened by the need to show solidarity with Israel as it contends with the abduction of hostages, including children, by Hamas during the October 7 invasion and massacre.

The rally was part of a broader series of events, with one such rally outside the Embassy of Israel in Washington, where attendees condemned Hamas’s rocket attacks and articulated the need for peaceful coexistence. The Washington rally was one of 19 held simultaneously in cities across the U.S., organized by the Israeli-American Council and other American Jewish groups. Rally participants expressed support for Israel’s self-defense and criticized the global response to the conflict. Individuals like Rachel Vana of Bethesda voiced frustration over the portrayal of Israel in international discourse, and Ron Hagag of Falls Church emphasized the unity needed between Israeli Arabs and Jews for peace.

The massive demonstration in Washington D.C. comes in the wake of a sharp surge in antisemitic incidents globally, particularly in the U.S. and Europe, following Hamas’s attack on Israel from Gaza on October 7. This attack resulted in the death of 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and the kidnapping of over 200 hostages, intensifying the call for solidarity marches like the one in Washington D.C.

This show of solidarity was a direct response to the wave of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish incidents, with individuals from various backgrounds joining to affirm their support for Israel and its right to defend itself. The march underscored a critical moment of international unity, as communities around the world rallied in support of Israel and against the rise of anti-Semitism.
