Tensions Escalate to Boiling Point as Rockets, Anti-Tank Missiles Target Israel; IDF Retaliates Aggressively with Jets
In a significant escalation on the Israel-Lebanon border, multiple incidents were reported on Sunday. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that several rockets, originating from Lebanon, targeted Israel, with nine penetrating Israeli airspace. Air defense systems intercepted five of these rockets, while the rest landed in uninhabited areas.
In a related development, several anti-tank missiles were fired at IDF posts and the northern Israeli moshav Shtula by Hezbollah, who subsequently claimed responsibility. The IDF responded swiftly, with artillery forces targeting the sources of the attacks. Israeli warplanes also struck Hezbollah military outposts in Southern Lebanon, following the rocket and anti-tank missile attacks.
Smoke was observed rising from the Lebanese side near the border with Israel, a testament to the severity of the IDF’s retaliatory actions. At least four civilians were reportedly wounded in the shooting on Shtula, leading to the tragic death of a man in his 40s despite resuscitation efforts. The injured were rushed to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya for treatment.
Further complicating the situation, Hamas’ military wing in Lebanon took responsibility for the rocket launches.
As tensions remain high, the IDF created a four-kilometer security zone in northern Israel, restricting access to civilians who don’t reside in the area. Those within two kilometers of the border were instructed to stay in bomb shelters and safe rooms. Several northern communities, including Kiryat Shmona and numerous kibbutzim, were directed to seek shelter amidst the ongoing hostilities.
The northern city of Nahariya, not unfamiliar with conflict, witnessed its air raid sirens wailing, marking the first such occurrence since the recent flare-up began.
