CHAOS ON CAMPUSES AS ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

Finally, after long delays, blue-state universities call in the cops to restore order. But the bedlam looks set to spread further in the coming weeks.

For hours after midnight on the UCLA campus, hundreds of pro-Hamas campers faced off with a hundred or so pro-Israel counter-protests, taunting and pushing, throwing objects at each other, hitting each other with umbrellas, chairs, and plywood, pushing barricades to and fro.

No law enforcement or security was called in for hours until a contingent of dozens of officers arrived in the wee hours, separating the side and restoring some semblance of order.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass calls the unrest “absolutely abhorrent and inexcusable” and said officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were enroute. Officers from the California Highway Patrol also showed up.

LAPD officers wearing helmets and face shields form lines and slowly separate the groups. That appeared to quell the violence, for now.

It is not clear how many people might have been injured or if any were arrested.

Pro-Israeli counter-protesters erected a big screen and showed films of Hamas violence on October 7 as well as pro-Israel talking points. Loudspeakers blasted monotonous Israeli kids songs, no doubt causing their adversaries sleepless nights as they improved their Hebrew.

New York’s Finest Finally Allowed to Show Up

At Columbia, a large force of NYPD special forces forcefully and swiftly retook the occupied Hamilton building and cleared it of protesters. Many turned out to be outside agitators, not students. Dozens were arrested, and students in violation of Columbia’s evacuation order are candidates for suspension and expulsion.

Hundreds of Columbia University alumni led by high-profile graduates demanded that cops end the pro-terror protests Tuesday — and that faculty who support them be suspended. M.ore than 2,000 people signed an open letter to the college’s under-fire president, Minouche Shafik, calling for “immediate and resolute action” to end the antisemitic protests.

The “Stand Columbia” group, including members of the school’s Jewish Alumni Association, called on the Columbia administration to expel students involved in the violence and place professors providing “material or emotional support” on administrative suspension.04:01

David Friedman, former US ambassador to Israel from 2017 to 2021, signed the letter. “It’s a misguided and appeasing policy when dealing with criminal behavior,” he said. “The faculty is siding with criminals.”

The Stand Columbia letter also slammed the “wanton disregard for university policies” and “the presence of masked outside agitators …and self-proclaimed leaders…spewing vile anti-semitic vitriol while directing this chaos.”

Video showed masked, keffiyah-wearing protestors smashing doors and windows, carrying furniture and metal barricades to Hamilton Hall where 60 protestors occupied the building and vowed not to leave Tuesday. Then NYPD arrived and within two hours cleared them out, tossing out a Palestinian flag and restoring the American stars and stripes.

“The university must act forcefully and decisively to end the anarchy that has been allowed to overtake and endanger the Columbia campus,” the letter said.

Hedge fund billionaire Leon Cooperman said administrators were to blame for the “anarchy.”

“I’ve said it before, but I think these kids have sh–t for brains,” said Cooperman, a graduate of Columbia Business School in 1967.

Hedge fund billionaire and Columbia Business School grad Leon Cooperman, has called out “blatant antisemitism” at his alma mater. “What we are seeing on campus is blatant antisemitism.” he said. “These kids should be ashamed of themselves. They’re stupid.”

Cooperman said he is not pulling his donations from Columbia Business School, drawing a distinction between it and the rest of the university. He has donated more than $50 million. “The university has to deal with this now,” he told The Post. “There are too many left-wing professors at the school.”

UC Berkeley Allows Disruption of Pro-Israel Free Speech

At UC Berkeley, a notable incident on April 27, 2024, involved a large group of protesters who disrupted a talk by an Israeli speaker, causing significant distress among attendees. The situation escalated quickly as protesters surrounded the building, with security struggling to manage the crowd. This event underlined the challenges universities face in safeguarding their campuses and students during politically charged protests (J.).

Tulane University Witnesses Antisemitic Aggression

Tulane University experienced significant unrest when a rally on April 29, 2024, escalated into violence against Jewish students. The rally, purportedly targeting Jewish students, was held on a public sidewalk, complicating the university’s response. This event was part of a broader pattern of antisemitic incidents that have been particularly visible at universities with significant Jewish student populations (Jewish Insider).
