Healthcare workers are merely suspended from their jobs, but their murder claims and antisemitic threats demand a criminal inquiry.
Two Muslim nurses from Sydney’s Bankstown Hospital have been suspended after a video surfaced in which they threatened to kill Israeli patients. The footage, which has ignited widespread condemnation, shows the nurses making vile antisemitic comments while wearing New South Wales (NSW) Health uniforms.
In the video, one nurse declared, “I won’t treat them, I’ll kill them,” when referring to Israeli patients. The other nurse falsely claimed to be a doctor and boasted about sending Israeli patients to “Jahannam” (hell). These reprehensible statements were made during a live-streamed conversation with Israeli content creator Max Veifer.
NSW Health Minister Ryan Park swiftly condemned the behavior, stating, “The comments are vile, dehumanizing and unacceptable. They made me sick to my stomach.” He assured the public that the individuals involved have been identified and stood down, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in the healthcare system.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also expressed his disgust, labeling the footage as “sickening and shameful.” He affirmed that the antisemitic comments, driven by hate, have no place in Australia and that those responsible have been referred to the NSW Police for criminal investigation.
Despite these strong condemnations, the mere suspension of these individuals is grossly inadequate. Their actions are not just breaches of professional conduct but potential criminal offenses. The fact that they felt emboldened to make such threats publicly raises serious concerns about the safety of Israeli and Jewish patients under their care.
Alex Ryvchin, co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, warned that this incident might represent broader issues within the healthcare community, calling for urgent action against such hateful ideologies. He stated, “This is a warning sign once again to all Australians about the evil that exists in our midst, the need to understand this ideology and to confront it … .”
The Australian Medical Association reiterated that all healthcare professionals are committed to providing unbiased care to all patients, emphasizing that there is no place for hatred in medicine.
It is imperative that a thorough criminal investigation be launched immediately. If these nurses have indeed acted on their abhorrent beliefs, they must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The healthcare system must be a place of trust and safety for all patients, regardless of their nationality or religion. Anything less is an affront to the values of decency and humanity.

“National and regional politicians strongly condemned their statements.”
Did they also strongly condemn their actions?
Are they going to do something tangible to punish the perps and prevent stuff like this in the future?
Why do conservatives or Republicans accept this horseshit response? Would they be so limited if it were Palestinians being killed? Does this equivocal response strengthen or weaken the country of civilization?
