The Israeli military intensified its operations in the Gaza Strip on the second day after the collapse of a truce between Israel and Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported striking over 400 terrorist targets in Gaza, including more than 50 targets in the area of Khan Yunis. Among these targets was an operational command center of Islamic Jihad inside a mosque, as well as military targets used by Hamas Naval Force. The IDF’s actions were a response to Hamas’s violation of the truce terms, as accused by Israel.
In Khan Yunis, a southern city in Gaza, the Israeli strikes were particularly intense, significantly affecting the area. The IDF emphasized the extensive nature of these strikes, which were carried out from air, land, and sea. This operation marked a significant escalation in the conflict, reflecting Israel’s determination to topple Hamas and its affiliates.
600 Hamas fighters have been reported killed, including a senior commanders in the stronghold of Sageya, east of Gaza city.
The IDF 551st Brigade combat team completed a mission in nearby Jabalya, killing Hamas terrorists and destroying terror infrastructure, the IDF said. The neutralized infrastructure included tunnels and subterranean structures.
During the operation, the tunnel had been located in the courtyard of a school compound. Another tunnel was located and destroyed in the home of a Hamas naval force activist, the IDF stated.
IDF troops also destroyed numerous pieces of Hamas combat equipment, including weapons, explosives, launchers, and ammunition.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a press conference reiterated Israel’s commitment to continue the fight “until we achieve all our goals: the return of all our abductees, the elimination of Hamas, and the promise that Gaza will never be a threat to Israel again.”
