This follows the recent assassinations of key figures, including Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. In response, Israel has communicated via third parties a stark warning to Iran, stating that any severe attack on Israel will result in Tehran facing devastating retaliation, including targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure. “Tehran will burn” is the laconic message reportedly sent by Israel.

Thursday Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, authorized direct attacks on Israel as retaliation for these assassinations. During an emergency council meeting, Khamenei emphasized the necessity of a strong response, which has led to heightened activities from groups like Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iraqi militias.

Hezbollah, led by Hassan Nasrallah, has declared that retaliation is inevitable. In his speech on Thursday, August 1, Nasrallah stated, “You do not know what red lines you crossed. Israel will pay for its actions, and the response will be swift and decisive.” He emphasized that the killing of Fuad Shukr and other leaders has provoked a reaction that Israel will not be able to withstand. Nasrallah’s rhetoric underscores the heightened state of alert and the potential for significant escalation.

In Yemen, the Houthis have stepped up their attacks, launching drones and missiles towards southern Israel. These actions prompted a forceful response from Israel, demonstrating their willingness to strike back decisively. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s readiness to defend itself, stating, “We are ready for every scenario and will stand united and determined against every threat.”

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also spoke on the situation, saying, “Israel will not tolerate any aggression, and we will respond with the full force of our military capabilities.
